I have a failed PC which had W2000 sp4 and Ghost 2003. Fortunately I have several Ghost 2003 backups which I can hopefully use for a full recovery. I have another PC with Ghost 10 running under XP PRO SP3. Windows shows the backups.
The problem is Ghost 10 does not recognise the existence of backups when I try to run Explore Recovery Points, Recover My Computer or Recover My Files. Render Reportviewer To Pdf C#. I have searched through the Community Forum but there does not appear to be anything. I have been using Norton Utilities for many many years but this recovery has is not going anywhere. Any useful help (apart from give up) would be appreciated. Hi Impact1972, Normally Ghost is backwards compatible with earlier versions. The only reason that it is not in this case is because starting with Ghost 9, Symantec completely changed their backup engine after their acquisition of PowerQuest.
In fact with the release of Ghost 9 Symantec had automatically included a copy of Ghost 2003 for this very purpose of maintaining backwards compatibility. I don't think they did so with Ghost 10 forward though. Rest assured that apart from this, Ghost is always backwards compatible with earlier versions. Before receiving the replies from Brian, I found my Ghost 9 CD so out of curiousity I simply installed it in a different Ghost Directory (without uninstalling Ghost 10 first). The install worked fine. I then ran Live Update and rebooted the PC. The good news is that Ghost 9 recognised the existence of each Ghost 2003 backup file. I then tried Checking the Integrity and Recovery. The Integrity checks all failed. Apparently each of my back up file was 'spanned across more then one volume or too defragmented'.
I know I had run Windows defragmentation just prior to each Ghost 2003 backup. Maybe the defrag didn't work on the Ghost 2003 backups or there is something peculiar about Ghost 2003 backups but I know that my backups were not spanned across mutiple volumes.
They are all on a single HDD. Ignoring these strange reports, I tried the Recovery using Ghost 9 anyway. Ghost 9 basically advised it could not proceed without the original Ghost 2003 recovery files etc. Antivirus Ringan Dan Ampuh 2012. So then I uninstalled Ghost 9 (and 10), rebooted the PC and installed Ghost 2003, ran Live Update, rebooted again and tried the same again. Integrity Checksresults were the same as with Ghost 9.
The backup were spanned across more then one volume or too defragmented BLAH BLAH. I have tried defragmenting the disk containing the backups using both Windows and Norton as well.
Both managed to defrag just about everything except the Ghost Backups. There are no physical errors on the backup Hard drives so there are logical issues. I don't know if there are any Symantec Utilities that can fix this. Maybe easier for me simply to forget the recovery using Ghos and do it the more conventional way by simply reinstalling the Windows Operating system etc etc. It will take just as long and it works. It's a pity but I really wish I could have achieved better results with GHOST.
